The Lamp and the Lamp Post

You are the lamp and your foundation is the lamp post. What do you believe in? What is it that only you can contribute to this world? But why should you ask yourself these questions you might ask, because you are not like anyone else. From the intricate traits that make up your personality down to the finger prints that identify you, everything about you is unique… but it comes with a burden.

Because we all are different means we were each given a different task. We may look around and be able to identify a personal characteristic or two of ours in our friends and family, but we all are not the same. Let’s look at the task of lifting a box. One person might lift a box differently than the other. Although there’s a process in which the box should be picked up. Whether it’s the way the person positions their feet or the movements made in their back when lifting with their legs, something will always be different. And that’s what makes everyone special.

If you’re a vlog or haul watcher like me, have you ever wondered why you prefer one YouTuber over the other? Their hauls might be from the same store, but I guarantee you their purchase of choice will always be different. But hey, let’s say they all buy a white tee shirt and a pair of black jeans. I’m pretty sure the way they put the pieces together will vary. One might pair their shirt and jeans with tennis shoes, the other with a pair of heels and the other with sandals and a statement necklace. And although they all share the title of YouTube influencers, each one brings a discrete spice that makes us prefer them over the millions of other YouTube influencers.

But I say all of this to encourage you to stay committed to who you are and what God has called you to do. We all are called to be a light to the ever darkening world but we must remember that the way we radiate will always be different. Some may be called to lead the masses so their “bulbs” might be more intense and glare with more power. Others might be called to be a light at a lower level so their bulb might be less vivid in order not to overwhelm the area that they were sent to illuminate.

Nonetheless, whether you were sent to light up Madison Square Garden or your back yard, no light is more important than the other. No task is more prestigious than the other.

At the end of the day, the goal is to brighten up areas that otherwise would be surrounded by darkness. We do that by being set apart. We do that by taking our differences and creating something beautiful with them. We do that by never forgetting our beliefs, values and morals which we do by always standing our ground. A lamp post that stands right up is more powerful than the one that wavers in the wind.

So take your God given talents and use them for good. Take your knowledge and educate the world. Use your good works to win over hearts and most importantly use the Gospel to break strongholds.

I don’t believe that we were placed on this earth just because. Every life has a calling that needs to be answered. Most importantly, it’s time to realize that it’s really not about you or me rather, how we are able to help others.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
