I’m all for trying out new restaurants but sometimes you get those restaurants that are a little bit harder to enjoy than usual. With this being my second time coming to this location I can’t say that this experience was better than my first.
The first time I ordered a penne chicken pasta salad that was not very pleasant to devour. After having their breakfast recommended to me, I decided to go ahead and give it a try thinking “hey, how can someone screw up breakfast lol?”. But boy was I in for a treat. This was the first time I’ve EVER tried poached eggs so my excitement quickly turned to horror after cutting into my meal. I didn’t know whether to scream or throw up but I definitely and with haste, sent the plate back.
The worker kindly took my plate back and promised to replace the poached eggs with scrambled eggs. She even requested permission to bring it out to me. Thirty minutes later, my meal still wasn’t ready yet. My friend playfully mocked me about having payed for a meal that I would never get to eat. I soon decided to remind someone of the fact that I had not eaten yet. This time I met a gentleman who insisted that my order would be ready in a few minutes and surprisingly it was! He even brought the dish outside to where we were AND refunded me back my money due to the fact that I had to wait so long for it.
So in conclusion, I’m not sure if I’ll be ordering there again but the Black Walnut Cafe is definitely a cute spot to catch up with friends or have some one on one time with yourself. They’rerelatively quick in regards to bringing your meal to you after you order it and the workers there are extremely nice. The good hospitality definitely made up for my overall unsatisfactory experience.
The meal I ordered was the lobster benedict which came with two extra large poached eggs, peppered bacon, seasoned lobster, toasted english muffin, house potatoes and cayenne citrus hollandaise. Overall, the food was very ok, nothing too special about it at all. It looked 10x better than it actually tasted unfortunately. I would say it needed a little something extra in the seasoning department.
I loved the meal with scrambled eggs a lot better than I did with poached eggs! It was still a dish foreign to me but made in a way that I would actually enjoy. Like usual, I still recommend that you go and try it out for yourself, who knows, you might have a more positive experience than I did! 😆
